Shaykh Mustafa El-kilany
Shaykh Mustafa El-kilany memorized the Quran and began teaching from a young age alongside his father, Sh. Ibrahim El-kilany. Sh. Mustafa was inspired by not only his father’s memorization of the Quran and knowledge of the Islamic Sciences, but in the way he implemented and applied the teachings of Islam. Sh. Ibrahim was a da’iee in the true sense of the word since he migrated to USA in 1969. He was an imam in multiple masajid, taught several communities and private students including the children of Malcolm X, mentored and guided converts as well as served as an advisor of multiple Islamic organizations. He was recognized by and invited to the White House on multiple occasions. He held a Masters in Accounting and in Finance and was a father of nine in addition to his journey of dawah.
Following in his father’s footsteps, after memorizing the Quran, Sh. Mustafa went on to further his Islamic Studies. Sh. Mustafa is a graduate of Bayyinah Institute where he studied classical Arabic grammar and then taught Arabic for multiple years afterwards. He also studied basics of Islamic Sciences at Qalam Seminary. Furthermore, he studied advanced tajweed, qira’at, and grammar at Shatibyah Institute and has continued to learn one-on-one under great luminaries from various institutions and methodological backgrounds since.
Sh. Mustafa has been teaching Quran and Islamic Studies for decades, starting at 12 years old, when he would accompany his father teaching Qaida at a Masjid while his father taught hifdh. He would also teach private students with his father on Fridays from Jumua to Maghrib. Shaykh Mustafa has mentored youth for the last 15 years as well as leading prayers in masajid, giving lessons, and giving khutbahs for the past decade. In addition to teaching in community settings, he teaches private students Quran, Hadith, Hifdh, Arabic Grammar and Tafsir.
Alongside his Islamic Studies, Sh. Mustafa also has a Bachelors in Bio Science and Minors in Math and Chemistry. He works as a researcher in brain cancer to support his family and to further fund his islamic education.
Sh. Mustafa is passionate about building a strong Muslim community in the United States that is knowledgeable, financially strong and equitable. He has a vision of where our Muslim community is and what it needs to propel both domestically and internationally. He strives to deliver messages in a way that is authentic to both Islamic scholarship as well as current issues. His mission is to preserve the religion in its orthodox form while being integrated in our society in a manner that doesn’t strip our identity. We as Muslim should not only be active members in our community but be leaders and contributors of society especially in regards to morality and ethics.
